About the Team
The intellectual property team in Dubai opened in April 2016 and is now looking to expand. The team, which has been ranked in numerous industry publications within 10 months of opening, offers intellectual property related advice in the UAE and wider Middle East region for clients. The team acts for a number of household names including large international and national clients and works closely with other sectors of the business, in Dubai and other offices. The team is based in Gowling WLG’s second Dubai office, in Business Bay.
Main Purpose of the Job
To work within the intellectual property team in Dubai, supporting paralegals and attorneys in docketing matters relating to the intellectual property portfolios of clients
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The primary purpose of this role is to provide experienced intellectual property administrative and docketing support to the intellectual property team in Dubai. Duties to include:
• Docketing all cases and correspondence for the IP team.
• Updating and running reminder and deadline reports for the IP team.
• Maintaining and updating the intellectual property case management database used by the team.
• Producing reports as requested by the IP team.
• Providing administrative support to lawyers/attorneys/paralegals in relation to Intellectual Property/Commercial related matters.
• Assist in the preparation of official documents (in Arabic) to be filed with the UAE Trade Marks Office and officials in other intellectual property related authorities in the UAE.
• From time to time, dealing with the officials at the UAE Trade Marks Office and officials in other intellectual property related authorities in the UAE.
• From time to time, assisting with the notarisation, legalisation and authentication of documents with the relevant official departments in the UAE.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Arabic.
• Assisting with other intellectual property administrative duties as directed.
Key skills and experience
We would look for the successful applicant to have some experience in intellectual property administrative duties in the UAE, or elsewhere. The successful candidate has:
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Arabic.
• Excellent attention to detail and prioritization skills.
• Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
• A working knowledge of English (written and spoken) is also desirable for the role.
The following previous experience is also a distinct advantage although not essential:
• Experience of working with government departments in the UAE, in particular the Ministry of Economy, DED, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Notary Publics.
• Experience of carrying out docketing duties.
• Experience of carrying out administrative duties, preferably within a law firm.
