Summary

COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND COMPUTING

Directs, coordinates, advises and technically supports all activities of comprehensive Workshop, heavy equipment and maintenance services. Reviews and provides technical advice, safety and supervision on all repair and modification jobs pertaining to static equipments.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate drawing designs for new or changed tools by measuring dimensions on the drawing and comparing them with the original specifications.
• Prepare layouts and drawings of parts to be made and of the process for putting them together.
• Reviews and studies workshop strategies and activities to ensure achieving optimum performance by developing necessary procedures and work plans, recommends future replacements and prepares necessary budget proposals.
• Provide Assistance for service and repair of equipment's. Directs troubleshooting of chronic problems identifies reasons and recommends remedial actions and ensures that maintenance services are provided safely and efficiently.
• Performs skilled mechanical maintenance on typical mechanical equipment.
• Performs, preventive / corrective / breakdown / shutdown / turnaround maintenance in the Super Complex.
• Disassembles, assembles, observes, repairs, tests, collects data and prepares reports etc. on equipment, as tasks related to maintenance.
• Performs installation and alignment of equipment such as pumps, compressors, etc. using relevant tools.
• Performs minor overhaul of equipment.
• Uses and ensures use of proper tools and tackles on the job.
• Carries out periodic pre-use inspection of tools and special tools, repairs, overhauls and tests them when required.
• Ensures proper housekeeping at all times at job sites.
• Acts as a member of the emergency team and participates in fire-fighting when required.
• Carries out planned inspection of equipment and machinery according to prepared inspection checklists.
• Carries out hazardous classification of equipment and machinery in his assigned area and specifies critical items / parts to implement special maintenance procedures.
• Performs other related duties such as directing the assigned crew in the Super Complex on safety critical jobs, observing safety of personnel, and equipment.

Qualification

• Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering with Technical secondary education certificate in mechanical trade, followed by 2 years of formal training to a technical diploma.
• 10 years' experience in diverse metal crafts including machine tooling, bench fitting and the fabrication, welding and repair, casting, forming and with experience of Heat transfer, compressors, thermo-fluids testing .
• Good knowledge of English language to read, write and speak.
• Computer skilled to use typical office tool like MS Windows.
