Media Relations Specialist

The Opportunity

The Vice President’s Office seeks an incumbent for the
position of Media Relations Specialist who is responsible to Gathers,
creates, and disseminates timely and high quality content for
publishing ZU news and updates. Communicates information about, and
create visibility for, Zayed University to external community through
all media channels in Arabic and English.

The Responsibilities

Under the direction and guidance of the Director, Administration

University News and Coverage:
  • Develops and implements an effective
strategy for the communication of high quality content using all media
channels,including digital tools/resources, traditional printed media,
photo images, video and audio footage, and other electronic
communication vehicles

  • Works closely
and intimately with abroad range of communication channels (,
written, social media, portal) and uses them strategically to
influence and inform important university stake
holders

  • Gathers, designs and prepares
extensive coverage of University news and events for distribution
within ZU and outside, both in Arabic and
English

  • Builds strong contacts
throughout the University community. Partners with department and
College leaders to gather, create and communicate meaningful and
relevant content to keep the employee community up-to-date with
university initiatives, events and accomplishments.

Media Relations and News:
  • Builds relationships with relevant
journalists in the print, television, radio, and on-line media and
academic publications and seeks to develop new contacts

  • Organizes and runs press interviews and
press conference with members of the University community

  • Researches, recommends and implements
the best practices in media relations.


Displays extensive conceptual knowledge about media relations
and works collaboratively in a team environment to promote a positive
media image for ZU

  • Oversees the
arrangements for media at university events. This includes inviting
and welcoming English and Arabic media,directing them, spearheading
press releases.

  • Liaises closely with the
special events staff in the organization and execution of
events.

  • Draws the attention of the Vice
President and Provost to any negative press or news of
interest.

  • Provides recommendations to
the University leadership to strategize, develop and implement
strategies to counter adverse media news and coverage

  • Develops, manages and shares with
colleagues a media lists of key people at relevant
media.

  • Networks with national and
state-wide media contacts, on-campus sources and partners with
organizations to generate news stories and media opportunities about
the University

  • Garners media coverage
for assigned colleges and departments to promote the
university’s initiatives

Faculty Research and Student Activities Update:
  • Fosters and maintains positive working
relationships with representatives of key media outlets. Represents
the university to the members of the news media and serve as the
contact point for reporters, editors and media

  • Collaborates with deans, administrators
and faculty to stay apprised of newsworthy activities and provides
communication support using various media


Interviews faculty and administrators and conducts research on
related topics to interesting and meaningful develop news releases and
articles

  • Writes, edits and disseminates
news releases and other articles to highlight research, programs,
faculty and staff achievements, students work and interests,
university events and such.

  • Mentors and
guides junior staff members, interns and student workers to develop
and communicate content in support of web,social media, blogs and
multi-media initiatives

  • Works with a
high level of confidentiality and integrity


Constant deadlines, multiple tasks and pressures from demands,
both internal and external, requires objectivity, tact,diplomacy and
good judgment when organizing priorities and responding to
requests.

  • Constant contact with senior
administration, faculty, students, parents, media representatives in a
variety of positions, and government officials


Ensures that Zayed University has positive coverage in local,
regional, international and other appropriate Arabic and English
newspapers, publications, magazines, radio, television and other media
channels

  • Develops good relationships
between the University and the media that result in positive coverage
of the University and its faculty, staff and students

The Requirements

Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism,
Communication or Media relations from an accredited institute with a
minimum 4 years of experience as an Editor/Media specialist, or an
equivalent combination of education, skills and
experience.

  • Excellent Planning and
organizing skills

  • Ability to complete
tasks with accuracy and strong attention to
detail

  • Strong knowledge of key media
contacts

  • Fast paced working environment,
extensive computer usage and vigorous and energetic
work

  • Social extravert and outgoing
  • Excellent Arabic and English writing
skills, with emphasis on journalistic writing.


Ability to manage deadlines and handle multiple tasks
simultaneously with an appropriate sense of
urgency

  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft
Office and platforms

  • Strong
media contacts
