Nurse Manager NICU
JOB PURPOSE
The post holder will be expected to function as an independent practitioner/ expert by virtue of their in-depth
knowledge and experience within the area to which they are assigned. They will lead and manage a team of
staff.
S/he will be a member of the senior nursing team within the hospital and help set the direction for the
development of staff along with the Senior Nurse Manager, within the area to which s/he is assigned and the
Chief Nursing Officer
The post holder will initiate and manage projects which will deliver enhanced patient care and deliver best
practice.
The post holder carries 24 hour continuing responsibility for their area and will provide leadership to the
nursing team to:
Ensure safe and effective practice
Enhance the patients experience of care
Manage and develop the performance of the team
Contribute to the delivery of the organizations objectives, mission, vision and values
MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Legal & Ethical
Practice within the legal and ethical framework as established by Dubai Health Authority, and national
legislation to ensure the patients interests and wellbeing are met.
Work within the AZHD guidelines and procedures/policies and develop those.
Maintain patient records in line with AZHD guidelines for record keeping
Within the governance framework of the organisation (including clinical, staff and financial governance) the
post holder will focus and lead on the following key result areas:

Leadership and Teamwork
As leader, promote teamwork within a multi-professional environment, demonstrating critical analysis and
decision making skills, leading the delivery of excellent, high quality service influencing and facilitating change
within the ward and where appropriate the organization. Participate in the Supervisor rota as required.
Evidence Based Effective Practice
Act as a change agent and positive role model leading the development of clinically effective practice through
the effective utilization and integration of evidence; setting, implementing and monitoring evidence based
policies, procedures and protocols.
Continuous Quality Improvement
Ensure a culture of continuous quality improvement through the use of audit, KPIs, patient feedback and
reflection on practice by self and other members of the team.
Patient Safety
Responsible for promoting a safe and clean environment for staff, patients and visitors by ensuring
compliance with legislation, policies and protocols health and safety, healthcare associated infection, risk
management and critical incident reporting and analysis, assessing and managing actual and potential risks to
health and well-being.
Ensure highest standard of record keeping in accordance with national legislation and local standards,
facilitating effective communication with multi-professional team regarding patient care.
TO ENHANCE THE PATIENT EXPEREINCE
Coordination of the Patient Journey
Responsible for ensuring the planning and co-ordination of the episode of care including the smooth
transition to other settings, promoting effective discharge and communication with interdisciplinary and
interagency teams as required.
Expertise
Responsible for ensuring co-ordination of nursing interventions, influencing clinical decisions and monitoring
the quality of patient care provided through using expert clinical knowledge relevant to own field of practice,
underpinned by theory and experience.
Promote a Culture of Person Centred Care
Within a multidisciplinary team environment, develop a culture of person-centered care by being highly
visible within the ward/department, communicating regularly with patients, relatives and/or carers;
promoting a caring environment where equality and diversity issues are respected and patients are enabled
to be partners in their care.
Identifies opportunities to develop care and services by ensuring that there are effective systems in place to
ascertain patient and carer experience/feedback and complaints are managed in line with organizational
policy including the dissemination of learning points.

Managing the Practice Setting
Mange the practice setting to which they are assigned, ensuring effective use of resources and workforce
planning by monitoring workload and, through efficient rostering, maintain appropriate staffing levels taking
account of role and competence of staff when delegating work, contributing to the management of the unit
budget.
Manage the nursing team by ensuring compliance by self and others with professional standards, legislation,
national and organizational policies, leading recruitment and selection for the unit, attendance management,
ensuring disciplinary matters within own department are identified, actioned and reported to the appropriate
manager.

QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE SPECIFIED FOR THE POST
Registered nurse with at least 7 years nursing experience including progressive management experience at
Charge Nurse level within the designated specialty and evidence of continuing professional development.
Education to Bachelor level.
Post holder should have extensive post registration experience within relevant area and demonstrate expert
clinical and professional practice developed through experience and theoretical knowledge.
Ability to maintain professional and personal credibility across all staff groups.
Ability to lead teams, lead practice and continuous professional development, work effectively as part of a
multi-professional / multi- agency team.
Personal motivation and enthusiasm for the development of nursing, patient care and the enhancement of
the patients experience of care, displaying a positive problem solving approach to various challenges.
Computer and information literacy. Good spoken and written English Language
