Barge Captain

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers of towed barge that transports material and equipment during the construction of marine projects. Directs workers engaged in loading and unloading barge to ensure that cargo is loaded according to balancing specifications.

• Inspects barge to ensure that craft is seaworthy.
• Signals TUGBOAT CAPTAIN to tow barge to destination or repositioning.
• Controls the winches of the barge to secure the barge or to reposition.
• Monitors the barge when equipment are operating the barge such as

• Floating Cranes for lifting or using clamshell and other attachments
• Excavators with long boom used for excavation or other purposes
• Any other equipment on the barge such as Generators, Water Pumps, Hydraulic equipment etc.
• To keep the facilities such as offices/living quarters/WC clean for the workers
• Inspects wire ropes and all consumables and to stock materials, to assist the repair
• Controls his subordinates.
