Technical Works Group - Team Leader
Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities) The British Embassy Dubai is looking for a full-time Team Leader to manage the Technical Works Group (TWG).
The TWG Team Leader will primarily concentrate on management of routine maintenance, repairs and minor works projects for the Dubai Embassy Estate comprising of offices, compound grounds, and both on and off-site accommodation. Leading a small team of staff and working with contractors, you will ensure that all facilities are operated and maintained in accordance with the relevant technical, and health and safety standards.
You will be required to take a hands-on approach, undertaking some aspects of maintenance works yourself (mechanical or electrical depending on your skill set), lead by example and be prepared to invest in the development of your team. You will also be responsible for property related inspections, health and safety audits and estate advisory services, as well as supporting minor procurement and finance activities.

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and package for this role including: basic salary and allowances of AED 8,278 per month all inclusive Band A2 (L); potential annual performance bonus; five weeks vacation per annum; free on-site parking; and free access to on-site swimming pool, gym and sports facilities.
No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
Conditioned/paid working hours are 38 hours per week. The standard working hours are from until Sunday to Thursday, plus a short lunch-break, deemed to be taken from 2:30pm – 3:06pm each day. However, the successful candidate may be required to work outside normal working hours if/as needed.

PROCESS
The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around two to three months.
If short-listed, candidates will be invited to take part in a short written assessment . The assessment date is yet to be finalised but it is likely to be around three (3) weeks after the closing date.
Candidates who pass the written assessment will then be shortlisted and invited for an interview , to be held approximately one week later.
The preferred candidate would need to complete the security clearance and if cleared, would be likely to commence at the Embassy around mid August.

Roles and responsibilities:
Primary Duties
- Schedule Works Requests for both on and off-compound sites including management of the maintenance calendar;
- Oversee Works Requests including ensuring where possible that the Technical Works Team (TWT) follows the relevant Health and Safety (H&S;) guidance;
- Identify ad hoc maintenance requirements and prepare/implement a long term Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule for essential building services, plant and equipment including: Supervise and direct the TWT on a day-to-day basis to ensure that the PPM programme is kept on-track and in accordance with the relevant H&S; and FCO property maintenance policies.
- LV electrical distribution and electrical installations;
- Split air conditioning, package A/C units and AHU’s;
- Standby generators;
- Fire protection systems;
- Water services;
- Swimming pools and associated water treatment plant;
- Security gates / vehicle barriers etc and
- External security lighting.
- Draft maintenance and minor work specification requests according to the relevant technical discipline, under the direction of the regional UK based Technical Works Officer.
- Source quotes, raise and receive Purchase Orders for goods and services related to maintenance works requests;
- Liaise with suppliers as needed.
Secondary Duties
- Promote a H&S; culture amongst the TWT including supporting the team’s completion of H&S; safety record documents;
- Assist with the preparation of budget estimates for rectification works including the preparation of fee proposals, maintenance of a log of the proposals and monitoring of the progress of the proposals through the FCOS commercial process, highlighting issues as needed.
- Perform and document Property Inspections and Hazard Risk Assessments (for which training can be given) for both residential accommodation and the compound offices; and
- General oversight of the compound.
Essential qualifications and experience
- Fluent in verbal and written English.
- Holder of a recognised trade qualification, ideally electrical installation plus a further qualification at diploma level in an engineering subject.
- At least five years experience operating in the commercial environment.
- IT literate and well versed in Microsoft office applications including Outlook calendar, Excel and Word.
- UAE drivers licence.
Desirable qualifications and experience
- Experience in implementing Health and Safety systems.
- Knowledge of building maintenance and project management.
- Verbal Hindu or Urdu skills
- Verbal Arabic skills.
